Before Sophia had her electric wheelchair, our world felt smaller than it should have been. Not because of her, but because of the limits placed on how far we could physically push an NHS wheelchair that was never designed for comfort or independence. Every outing had an unspoken boundary. Every family day out came with an invisible finish line.
Sophia is 11 years old, and her Mobility Extra MX-1 is far more than a piece of equipment. It is her independence, her confidence, and her freedom on wheels.
Before her chair, every trip involved the same questions. How far could she manage today. How long before the pain started. Would she need to stop while everyone else carried on. Those thoughts followed us everywhere and quietly shaped our plans.
Now, Sophia decides.
With her MX-1, she controls where she goes, how fast she gets there, and when she is ready to stop, just like any other child her age. That sense of control has changed how she moves through the world and how she feels within it.
When we travelled to Disney World, something truly special happened. Not the fireworks or the castles, but watching Sophia choose her own path. She steered herself through the parks, decided which way to turn, and rolled alongside her family rather than watching from the sidelines. She was not being pushed. She was not waiting. She was leading the way.
Just because Sophia cannot walk far does not mean she cannot take part.
Her MX-1 allows her to join in fully, confidently, and without missing out. She has travelled to Belfast, Scarborough, the Pleasure Beach, and many places in between in her much-loved “Hot Wheels”. Each journey builds more than memories. It builds independence. She explores, she laughs, she keeps up, and she feels equal.
That freedom changes how she sees the world, and how the world sees her.
Her electric wheelchair reduces pain, conserves energy, and allows her to take part without exhaustion. It supports her physically, but it also lifts her emotionally. It gives her dignity. It gives her choice. Most importantly, it gives her childhood back.
Sophia is not defined by what she cannot do.
She is defined by where she has been, and by where she is going next.
And thanks to her MX-1, the world is wide open in front of her.

We love seeing how our customers use their wheelchairs to live life to the full, whether that means getting around at home, exploring outdoors, or travelling further afield.
To take part, simply share a photo or a short 30–60 second video showing how you use your chair in everyday life, along with a short caption explaining how it supports you. Selected stories may be featured on our website and social media to help inspire other wheelchair users.
